Participation in the next annual meeting of the European Meteorological Society

Wednesday, July 5, 2017

Our workmate Markel García-Díez is going to present the study "Evaluation of multi-physics urban-scale forecasts in the city of Madrid" in the upcoming European Meteorological Society annual meeting, that will take place in Dublin between the 4th and 8th of September 2017.

This study, that has been accepted as an oral presentation in the session The Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF): Development, Research and Applications, describes our experience using the WRF for issuing high resolution (1 km) forecasts in the area of Madrid (Spain). The resolution of the simulations, the length of the period considered and the multi-physics ensemble are the more relevant aspects of the work. At the resolution used, the model is able to resolve details as the Urban Heat Island (UHI) and the topography of the city. Consequently, the goal of the study, apart from the generic evaluation, is to analyse the UHI of Madrid, including the forecast skill for the UHI itself, and its sensibility to the the model configuration.
